My Weight-loss Adventure

This Blog is a chronicle of the weight-loss adventure I began on June 12, 2003 with Michael Thurmond's Six Week Body Makeover program, which is available at www.provida.com. It contains my story and the tools I have used to assure success along the way.

Pinto Beans

Generally, none of us are allowed to have any of the dried beans on the weight loss program, but we are allowed to have pintos occasionally, as a part of another recipe, such as the SWBM chili recipe on one of the recipe cards that comes with the kit. Here is the information given by the BMOS Associate:

From BMOS Dolores:
There was a long, hard discussion when it came to beans and where they belong on the 6WBMO. To be sure, beans are a very nutritious, fiber-full food, BUT they are an interesting combination of carbohydrates and plant protein. Our vegetarian members MUST eat some so that they get their nutrients in, whereas our omnivore (all the rest of us!) don't need to rely on beans as a protein source. The result? All beans were going to be classified as Carb C, but those two...pinto and fava, were allowed in as carb B, ON OCCASION, to compliment a few recipes. It was a bit of a compromise. As an A bodytype, you should avoid beans whenever possible, meaning pretty much all the time. Make the 5 Alarm Chili without them. Beans are pretty high in calories, and it would be better to round out your meal with veggies rather than beans.
