Crystal Light and Processed Foods
You can have other beverages, but these are in ADDITION to your water, not in place of. At the last live chat with MT, he was asked about flavored carbonated waters. He said that these are okay, but do not count towards your water. Same thing goes for other non-water beverages. It boils down to basic chemistry/biochemistry. When you have tea, coffee, Crystal Light, etc., you are having a chemical dilution...not water. Your body needs to process the dilution in order to utilize the water, if it can get to that.
When someone asked why they couldn’t count it as water, Rikki wrote back:
Crystal Light and other similar beverages contain sweetner, coloring, and other chemicals. Your body doesn't treat it the same as water.
As for the canned goods, just remember, this program is all about FRESH, unadulterated, unprocessed foods. Canned foods are processed. Period. Now, I will also tell you that some of us do use the NSA (no salt added) products, as long as the only ingredients on the label are water and the food....such as green beans or tomatoes, etc. If there is anything else, do not buy it. Be careful with fresh meats also. Many companies infuse their chicken especially with broth, which is LOADED with sodium. All foods naturally have sodium, but you need to look for chicken that has not been added to. Sanderson Farms is one brand, and I think Smart Chicken is another. You really have to hunt for them!! Eat rice....just buy the old-fashioned long-cooking type, especially brown rice or even the wonderfully chewy and tasty brown and wild rice blends. If you have a Whole-Foods type market where you can buy it in bulk, it will be MUCH cheaper. That's also how I buy my spices...I buy about $250 worth of spices for about $20. The mark-up on spices is extreme!!
