My Weight-loss Adventure

This Blog is a chronicle of the weight-loss adventure I began on June 12, 2003 with Michael Thurmond's Six Week Body Makeover program, which is available at www.provida.com. It contains my story and the tools I have used to assure success along the way.

True Confession - a Bump in the Road

In my last update on March 5th, I thought I would be able to be totally back on track, since Mother was home from the hospital. WRONG. I had a minor setback when my mother was in the hospital for 2 months, and then had to have my care for about another month, so that meant that most of that time I was having to eat out all meals and didn't have time to cook or be at home. What I learned from that forced lesson was that even with making as good choices as possible, eating out all the time is just totally detrimental not only to our weight but to our health. However, I am back on plan. It was SO good to be able to get back to my kitchen, my foods, the exercise, and Michael's plan!!! I was feeling so tired and sluggish those 3 months, and it was nothing in the world but all those foods with preservatives, fats, sugars, and oils in them.

I didn't realize I would be needing to be with Mother quite as much as I thought, so it took me until the end of March, literally, on March 31st, to truly get back to cooking all the foods I need, plus getting in all the exercise. That said, I decided I really needed to say how much weight I gained in 3 months of forced eating away from home, in the hopes that someone else who finds himself or herself in a similar situation, will know that it was just a temporary bump in the road to progress. I did gain 35 lbs. in 3 months and I also gained 44 inches! I could have been depressed, but I had faith that God did NOT bring me this far to fail and I KNEW that when I could get back on program, that weight would go away. I am still in my very stretched out size 14's, and my goal is to get to the size 12 on this next leg of my journey. As of today, I have lost 7 of the pounds I had gained, so I need to lose 28 more to get back to my Dec. 26th weight, and then I have lost 5.5 inches, with 38.5 more to lose to get back to the Dec. 26th measurements.

While Mother was in the hospital, I had helped her to her potty chair one night, and she slipped. I tried to hold her up so she wouldn't fall all the way to the floor, and stayed in that very awkward position, until the nurses could come assist us. Neither of us was really hurt badly, but I did injure my right shoulder, which is still giving me fits. I guess I'm going to have to break down and go to the dr. with it, since I cannot lift or raise it to my shoulder height, much less raise that arm over my head. It makes dressing very difficult and painful, so when I can find a day, I'll make an appt.

I just wanted those of you who visit my BLOG to know what had happened while Mother was so ill, but things are looking up for both of us. I now am cooking for her, too, so she is eating my foods, at least at lunch and at dinner. Whew! That feels good to get off my chest and now back to losing, losing, losing! I am so excited about that!!!! Nothing feels as good as what Michael's program does for me! I look forward to hearing from any of you, but use my emaxson2@comcast.net address to comment. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to respond to you. Take care, and happy, happy losing!! Liz

April 30th Update:

Well, I am still having a few "bumps" in the road, but I have lost 9 lbs. of the ones I had gained, so there are are 26 more to go, but they are coming off. I have not been faithful to my walking (2 miles daily), and that has been another factor, so I'm really going to push to try to walk as many days as possible this week. It DOES make a lot of difference!! Have a great month! I do look forward to hearing from you. Liz
