My Weight-loss Adventure

This Blog is a chronicle of the weight-loss adventure I began on June 12, 2003 with Michael Thurmond's Six Week Body Makeover program, which is available at www.provida.com. It contains my story and the tools I have used to assure success along the way.

Update 1-14-08

Good morning!

Finally, I am beginning to be back in the "land of the living", after being down for almost 3 weeks with bronchitis. I think I slept round the clock for about 11 days, with several days of improvement, followed by more with symptoms (mainly cough) returning. I will report that I spent the last 3 days cooking (what usually takes me about 4 hours!) so that today I can actually get back on program, and so can my friend Beth. I had no energy after being on fluids for 2-1/2 weeks, so it took me longer to cook, since I would cook a little, rest a lot, cook a little, rest a lot, etc. You get the picture!! Anyway, it feels so good to be back in focus. I re-affirmed my covenant with God this morning. Only with His strength have I had success, and I had definitely strayed. My goal always from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day is just not to gain, but to be able to enjoy a few of our traditional "goodies" without going overboard and gaining the huge amounts of weight I used to always gain through that time period. I would have made that goal, I know, had I not been sick, but even then, as of this morning, I have lost some of the 10 lbs. I gained during my illness. Isn't that crazy? I was not eating meals, on fluids only, and gained 10 lbs. That is just an illustration of what Michael Thurmond tells us....you have to eat to lose!! Otherwise, our metabolism shuts down...and I'm a prime example of that these past 2-1/2 weeks.

So, foods are cooked, I have weighed, measured, and am writing my goals and menus down. I am so excited to have been able to get my meals for the week prepared, because that is one major key to my success.....being prepared. When I have the foods ready, then I don't have to think or worry about the fact that I'm tired and I just don't want to cook or that I'm busy working on genealogy or some other project, ....it's already done, and all I have to do is re-heat. The neat thing that I've learned throughout this 5 year process is that foods cooked without fats and sugar do not taste like left-overs when re-heated!! I always hated leftovers, but that is a thing of the past with the cooking methods you use in SWBM. Take care, and have a happy losing week! I plan to do just that myself.
