My Weight-loss Adventure

This Blog is a chronicle of the weight-loss adventure I began on June 12, 2003 with Michael Thurmond's Six Week Body Makeover program, which is available at www.provida.com. It contains my story and the tools I have used to assure success along the way.

What do I cook?

I tend to cook the same things most of the time. I use 98% fat free ground beef, available at Tom Thumb(owned by Safeway), and I make ground turkey breast sausage (you have to be careful that the package says “turkey breast” or white meat only, no more than 2% fat) which is very good. I have also used very lean pork loin or boneless pork loin chops and I eat about 4 lbs. of boneless, skinless chicken breast a week, so you have to watch the ads to see who has the best deal and stock up!! I cook everything for the week on one day (Sat.) and then weigh it, bag it, and I’m ready to grab and go the rest of the week. I do cook breakfasts from scratch, though.

F.Y.I.
6 oz. of orange juice is like eating 6 oranges, and that is too much sugar to lose weight. It is best to never drink fruit juice as it makes your blood sugar rise and therefore, makes you hungrier and craving sugar. (First published 5/3/05)

Follow your eating plan according to your Fast Track Card. Eat your meals 2-3 hours apart, never going more than 3 hours between a meal and a snack. Don't use any oils or fats. Switch to a salt-free seasoning such as McCormick's or Mrs. Dash’s blends. Drink 100 oz. of water a day and take a multi-vitamin and a calcium tablet at the very least. Leave off all breads and dairy. Use a sweetener like Splenda instead of sugar. Try to eliminate cold drinks, except maybe one diet drink occasionally. Less is better.
