Those cards were very confusing to me, too!! So, as a result, I just never used them. I needed specifics when I started this program, and they just didn't cut it for me. However, I have read an explanation from one of the BMOS Associates recently, that those are made for family portions, so that you don't have to cook differently for the other members of the family. I'm looking at the recipe card for the 5-alarm chili and I see that it has 1 lb. of meat. You'll need to know how many ounces you can have for your body type, since it does vary, but generally its 2 oz., so that would mean a total of 8 servings. I do not like beans in chili (chili purists don't!!), so I never even thought to put them in. The other ingredients don't really matter, so when you finish with the recipe, measure the entire amount, divide by 8 (the number of servings) and then you'll know how much is one portion. I personally served mine over 1/2 cup of brown rice. It was delicious topped with my fresh salsa and a little bit of my homemade catsup!! (First published 2005)
