My Weight-loss Adventure

This Blog is a chronicle of the weight-loss adventure I began on June 12, 2003 with Michael Thurmond's Six Week Body Makeover program, which is available at www.provida.com. It contains my story and the tools I have used to assure success along the way.

On falling off the wagon...

Of course, I've fallen off the wagon, but I have always tried to follow the philosophy that one meal off, means I need to compensate the other 5 meals. Having been a type 2 diabetic (and even though it is now GONE, I do NOT want it to return), it is critical for me not to miss any of the six meals, so even if I eat wrong for one meal, I try to eat lettuce, tomato, and grilled chicken (or some other protein) with my balsamic vinaigrette dressing for at least 2 of the other meals. Then, I just eat the recommended foods for the other meal/snacks. In addition to that, I try to drink at least another 20 oz. of EXTRA water to flush out the salts, fats, and sugars in the off meal, AND I make sure that I exercise one extra time. That usually counteracts the off plan eating, and at least keeps me EVEN. Just don't skip those other meals. Also, I find it challenging to be with other people and show them that it is NOT the foods that make the day, but their company. It can be done, but it is a process where you have to change your thinking about family gatherings. I often go to dinners and tell the hostess in advance that I'm on a very specialized eating plan (I NEVER call it a diet) for my health, and that I can come if I can bring my own foods. I just pack my little ice chest (one of those tiny ones) with my foods, heat the food at the host's house, put my foods on her plates, and no one ever says a thing about it. You just have to decide is that few minutes of pleasure worth all the pain and bad health for a lifetime? My answer is "no," but that is something you have to decide for yourself. I hope this helps. Just dust yourself off, chalk it up to "education," make a note of it, and get back on program!! That's life. Progress is never in a straight line, and neither is weight loss. You need to have these learning experiences so that you won't make the same mistake, or as bad a mistake in the future.
