My Weight-loss Adventure

This Blog is a chronicle of the weight-loss adventure I began on June 12, 2003 with Michael Thurmond's Six Week Body Makeover program, which is available at www.provida.com. It contains my story and the tools I have used to assure success along the way.

Body Type

Some of you have been concerned about what body type these recipes are for, so I wrote this article to address that question:

I started out a Body Type A. Then, after 80 lbs. and beginning to exercise, I noticed I was not losing much (but I always lost either inches or lbs.), so I re-took the test and came out a type B. I switched to that plan and stayed there until at about 120 lbs. down I began to have massive sugar cravings. I had studied quite a bit about nutrition in the early 1980's and 1990's, as my husband and I had a Shaklee business, whose primary products were nutritional supplements as close to nature as possible. I remembered that we had learned when you are craving sweets, it generally means that your body is not getting enough protein, which turns into the natural sugars your body needs through the digestive process. So, I thought, "I'd better take that test again." I did, and that time (actually I took it several times to be sure), I came out a body type D, for which the primary difference is the addition of about 1 oz. of protein to each of the meals!!! Made sense to me. So, I followed the Type D for several months, and then just decided on my own to go back to the type A, unless the cravings returned. They did not. However, my colonoscopy really dealt me a blow....with all the sodium in that lovely drink, I gained 10 lbs. OVERNIGHT!!! It took me 5 weeks to get it off, because soon afterward I took a very hard fall and it was 5 weeks before I could exercise again. Bummer!! Anyway, I just kept muddling along with inch loss but not pounds and finally decided I'd better re-check. It was clearly a type B.

All that said, it really doesn't matter much what type you are. The recipes are basically for almost all body types, but you will have to know how much is a portion for you and what time of day you can have your carbs, fruits, or limited veggies. Once you have that plan in your head, then the rest is just a matter of choice. I've used the same recipes all the way through.
